A LOCAL FAMILY BUSINESS IN OPERATION
FOR OVER 40 YEARS!
Don Dimig, owner of 1st American Roofing Company, is a Colorado native originally from Westminster. He currently resides in Lafayette with his wife, who he has three wonderful children with. He has always had a passion for building things and for helping people. When Don was 13 years old, his family life was drastically changed when his father left, and he stepped up to help his sister and his mom by doing household projects that his father had never gotten around to finishing. He studied extensively in order to finish the family's basement and his mom bought him his first set of tools.

The company was originally owned by Don's stepdad and focused primarily on plumbing, heating, and remodeling- which are all things that Don learned while working there. Don eventually bought his stepdad's business and began expanding it- he started doing room additions, basement finishes, deck building, and other construction projects. He got various licenses in different jurisdictions as he worked, and, for a while, he eventually focused on just finishing basements. He then began building houses and doing full renovations, building apartment complexes, office condo projects, and storage units. He eventually decided to start focusing on roofing because of his love for working with people, and his passion for advocating for clients who have had damage and need insurance coverage for their roofs. Being a Colorado native, he was aware of how important it is to get your roof taken care of amidst the frequent hailstorms that barrage the front range and beyond. The company has evolved significantly over the last 42 years, and Don has put in a lot of work to make it into what it is today- 1st American Roofing Company!
Don had always hoped that one of his kids would be interested in his business and was excited when his son, Jay, showed the same passion for building things that Don had exemplified at an early age. When Jay was 7 or 8 years old, he begged his dad to build a playhouse with him, and Jay took quickly to construction and learned how to use a nail gun to complete the playhouse with his dad.

When Jay eventually went to college, he set out to study chemical engineering. He had a change of heart and made the decision to study construction + facilities management with the intention of working with his dad and helping to expand the business, just as Don did with his stepdad. Jay just graduated with his degree from Brigham Young University and is now the Operations Manager at 1st American Roofing Co, and has extensive experience roofing, both as a teenager working for his dad, and also as a college student working for a roofing company in Utah. His well-rounded and informed approach to further expanding the company has complimented Don's years of expertise in the field, and together they have brought on new employees to help the company provide the best possible service to our clients.
